## Frequently asked questions

### How do I know which varicose vein treatment is right for my case?

The smartest approach is to be guided by a specialist like Dr. Jorge Molina, with more than 25 years of experience, kept up to date with the latest scientific advances, following a personalised diagnosis using Venous Duplex Ultrasound.

### Is the aesthetic result good after varicose vein treatment?

Dr. Jorge Molina, besides being a specialist in Angiology and Vascular Surgery, also holds a Master's Degree in Aesthetic Medicine, and applies that perspective to all of his treatments. Each varicose vein treatment technique has its own particularities, and each patient's response is different, so a specific cosmetic result can never be guaranteed. But we always put in our full effort and best expertise with the aim of achieving the best possible result for you. Our priority will always be: your health first, aesthetics second. Our commitment is this: we will never risk a potential complication to your health purely to chase a cosmetic result. For us, the patient always comes first.

### What is VenaSeal® or ClariVein® sealing, and how long is the recovery?

We seal off the varicose vein using a medical adhesive (VenaSeal®) or a mechanochemical system (ClariVein®), with no heat and no tumescent anaesthesia — just a single puncture under local anaesthetic. It's an outpatient procedure: you walk immediately afterwards and don't need compression stockings.

### How does Radiofrequency or laser ablation work for varicose veins?

We seal off the varicose vein using a catheter that applies controlled heat from the inside. It's performed under local anaesthesia and sedation. You start walking one hour after treatment, and it doesn't require a hospital stay either.

### When is classic surgery (stripping) needed for varicose veins?

Today it's reserved for specific cases where endovenous techniques aren't suitable or don't offer any additional benefit. It requires general or spinal anaesthesia, sometimes an overnight stay, and returning to normal activity usually takes 3-5 weeks — longer than with minimally invasive techniques.

### What is phlebotomy (Müller's technique) for varicose veins?

It's a technique for removing varicose branches using local anaesthesia and small punctures of less than 2mm. It can be useful as a stand-alone technique for some varicose veins, or as a complement to a vein treated by stripping or Radiofrequency.

### Does microfoam sclerotherapy work for spider veins?

It works for reticular veins (the thicker ones, up to 2mm); finer telangiectasias are treated with laser. Polidocanol microfoam is injected and compression is applied afterwards. The result isn't immediate: it's assessed at 4-6 weeks, with a follow-up review at 6-8 weeks, and the number of sessions needed varies from case to case.

### Why is a good Venous Duplex Ultrasound so important before treating my varicose veins?

It combines ultrasound imaging (to see the anatomy of the veins) with Doppler (to see how blood is flowing and detect reflux), creating an individual venous map. Without that map, it isn't possible to know precisely which technique is most suitable — two people with similar-looking varicose veins can have completely different underlying causes.
